Cineo Maverick™ is the long-awaited portable member the family from Cineo Lighting. This evolutionary fixture provides all of the benefits of Remote Phosphor Technology found in the TruColor HS™ and LS™, while better meeting the demands of field use: lightweight, DC powered and weatherproof. Cineo Maverick delivers a volume of light equal to a traditional 1K soft source, optimized for image capture as well as other applications that demand accurate color rendering.

With a wide array of accessories, power supply and mounting options, Maverick becomes another indespensible tool for motion picture and television professionals from Cineo Lighting.

As with Cineo’s TruColor HS and LS, interchangeable phosphor panels permit a variety of color temperatures in one fixture. Extended CRI for Maverick is over 95 and it generates the same 160° beam spread as HS and LS.

Basic Stage Makeup Workshop 2015

Registration now Open!

Fall 2015 Makeup Post PicParlights is proud to present a Theatrical Makeup Seminar by Professional Makeup Artist Roger Riggle September 12, 2015.  Pre-Registration is required for this popular workshop, and space is limited, so reserve your spot today!

      • Saturday September 12, 1-5 pm
      • Performing Arts Factory 244 S. Jefferson Street, in Frederick MD
      • Features Washington based makeup artist Roger Riggle.
      • Fee-  $75 before 7/1/15,  $90 after 7/1.

Hands on Training

This year’s session will be an afternoon packed with makeup techniques, tips and tricks.  This session is perfect for teachers, community theatre groups and beginning drama students!  Demonstrating on a model, Roger starts with the absolute basics and works to the completed stage face.  Students map a design on paper, and then apply it to their model.  Roger offers help and answers questions as they work.

With mastery of basic techniques under their belt, the class watches a demo on old age techniques–veins, hand, wrinkles, age spots, etc–and applies what they have learned to their models under the watchful eye of a professional artist.  By the end of the class it will appear that our models have aged 75 years, and the artists will have gained knowledge, experience, and confidence.

Each participant will bring another person to be their model.  Models do not apply makeup, simply sit to be “made up”.  Photo releases will be required for participants.  Each student will receive a packet of supplies to take home.  Register early — last year’s class sold out quickly!

A word about color…LED DEMO BUTTON

LED Theatrical Lighting fixtures use a variety of color mixing systems to match the colors used in “conventional” stage lighting.  Some use four colors of LED, some use seven.  Some use RGBA, some use RGBW, and some use a combination of primary and secondary colors.  All of these systems have different strengths and weaknesses, and all of them are the subject of much debate (mostly between salesmen and anyone they can get to listen).

Our recommendation?  Don’t give in to the hype.
We think that you are smart enough to make your own choice.
See for yourself, use your eyes, and decide what works best for your application in your space lighting actual people.

Stage Curtain Flammability – Have you checked yours?

A Grande Drape installed by Parlights
A Grande Drape installed by Parlights

Stage Curtain Flammability should be checked annually.

Parlights can help.   Contact us for help help testing your curtains!

(We can also help with annual maintenance and inspections for theatrical lighting and rigging equipment).

Are your Curtains properly certified?

Stage Drapes and Curtains must pass NFPA 705, a fire resistance regulation, and all properly made curtains arrive with this certification from their manufacturer.

Look for one of these terms on your curtains:

  • IFR—Inherently Flame Resistant, the fabric is woven of fibers that will not burn under normal circumstances.  A curtain that has gotten drenched with oil, for example, is no longer considered IFR. Examples of IFR fabrics are typically the poly fibers—Encore, Poly Scrim, Poly muslin, and Trevira Muslin
  • FR–Flame Resistant, the fabric has been treated with a chemical immersion process to prevent combustion. These include the cotton fabrics used onstage—velour, cotton muslin and scrim, Leno, Commando and Duvetyn, and some manufactured fabrics as well.  Because the solution is applied to the surface of the fabric, it will wear off in time. Most flame proofing chemicals are water based, and will be dissipated by high humidity, repeated cleaning or other contact with water.   FR certification is good for one year.

Environmental challenges, high humidity or a heavy coat of dust, will reduce the flame retardancy of Stage Curtains.

Clean and Repair, or Replace?

Eventually you need to make a tough choice: endeavor to clean, repair and retreat curtains…or replace them.

Frequently a drape that has hung for 10 years is worn to the point of no return.

Often, replacement cost vs. cleaning /treatment is the first consideration.   Some fabrics, poly in particular, can (technically) be cleaned…though the cost to do so is often prohibitive.  Others, including cotton velvet or velour, cannot be cleaned.   You should also consider the time involved: the turn around time for new curtains is about a month, about the same as the time required to clean, retreat, and dry your existing curtains.

We find the vast majority of customers opt for the new curtain.
