Strand Lighting has introduced a compact LED fixture perfect for the studio or on location. Studio Panel operates on AC or DC power pulling only 50 watts! Location operation through industry standard batteries is built in. This unit will provide a soft, even wash at 19 degrees with diffusion lenses for 40 and 60 degrees. An optional barndoor set simply snaps on to the unit. Whether you have a studio set to light or a simple location interview, the Studio Panel LED is the right choice. House and work lights are going green! LED lighting fixtures have now reached the price point and dimming capability that tips the scale in favor of using them over traditional sources such as incandescent and hard to dim fluorescent fixtures. The very low maintenance associated with LED fixtures is reducing labor costs as well as energy usage and carbon footprint. In fact, an installed high quality LED fixture may not need any maintenance for 5 to 10 years other than the occasional dusting of the reflector that all fixtures require . LED fixtures are available for both new construction and retrofit applications. Fixtures with on board DMX control do not require additional dimmers! What started back in the 90’s as an online business card has grown into this dynamic tool that harnesses the power of Social Media that we hope will assist you with all of your theatrical needs while providing a little humor and articles of general interest.

 Our friends at Digital Bard have put together this web tool based on the WordPress concept of Information Technology. A platform that is flexible and dynamic so that we may take advantage of new media and provide you with relevant content. This platform will allow us to immediately integrate the most popular media sites such as our Facebook and Twitter feeds, giving you multiple ways of accessing Parlights. This will also allow us to interact with you, our creative customers, with forums of tips, tricks, and photos from your work that you would like to share with us and the community at large.

Stage Directions has an interesting article up about choosing color for the stage. While I’ve gotten better at it over the years, selecting color is still one of the toughest parts of any design for me. I often find myself falling back on the old standby of pink or amber front light. The author makes a good case for using clear or blue front light on your actors.

University of Richmond Jepson House Lights

The Jepson Auditorium at the University of RichmondParlights recently finished completely replacing the house light control system in the Jepson Auditorium at the University of Richmond. The new system consists of Strand Vision.net control equipment and control stations, as well as two custom-built control panels at the Stage Manager’s and Control Booth locations. The new equipment brings the architectural controls in the Auditorium up to date, and adds control options that weren’t possible when the original system was designed. The custom-built panels, for example, now allow the staff to select from many different operating modes depending on how the space is being used – rehearsal, show, or clean-up, for example. The panels can also create and store custom lighting presets on the fly. We’re obviously very proud of what we accomplished on this project. More important to us, though, is the fact that our customer is happy with the solution we’ve provided.
