The jewelry is made by Ro-z Edelston, a dynamic young lighting technician who I had the pleasure of meeting at our Altman camp. When I spied her gel frame earrings I knew you all would love them. Dangling from the necklace are a 3-pin stage connector pin, a miniature gel frame, 1 small vile of pulverized MR16 reflector, and a small flat iridescent stone.

Hurricane Sandy

We’d like to take a moment to express our sympathy to any of our friends and customers who may have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. We hope that you’re all okay out there! Seeing the photos and video from New York, New Jersey, and even Maryland’s own Eastern Shore reminded us how very fortunate we were to have only “suffered” through a few hours without power and some minor damages.

As you return to your work or classes, we’d like to encourage you to take a few minutes to check out your lighting system. Power failures, and especially the power surges that often precede them, can cause damage to dimming, control, and network equipment that may not be immediately apparent. So fire up that console and make sure your lights are in good working order. Check out any DMX nodes or other network equipment you may have, take a look at your dimmer racks and make sure there aren’t any fault lights glowing. If you do this now, you’ll spare yourself the panic of finding a problem an hour before show time.

House and work lights are going green! LED lighting fixtures have now reached the price point and dimming capability that tips the scale in favor of using them over traditional sources such as incandescent and hard to dim fluorescent fixtures. The very low maintenance associated with LED fixtures is reducing labor costs as well as energy usage and carbon footprint. In fact, an installed high quality LED fixture may not need any maintenance for 5 to 10 years other than the occasional dusting of the reflector that all fixtures require . LED fixtures are available for both new construction and retrofit applications. Fixtures with on board DMX control do not require additional dimmers! My name is Cary Levitt, President of Parlights and I wish to welcome you to the launch of Parlights 5.0, the 5th generation of our website! What started back in the 90’s as an online business card has grown into this dynamic tool that harnesses the power of Social Media that we hope will assist you with all of your theatrical needs while providing a little humor and articles of general interest.

 Our friends at Digital Bard have put together this web tool based on the WordPress concept of Information Technology. A platform that is flexible and dynamic so that we may take advantage of new media and provide you with relevant content. This platform will allow us to immediately integrate the most popular media sites such as our Facebook and Twitter feeds, giving you multiple ways of accessing Parlights. This will also allow us to interact with you, our creative customers, with forums of tips, tricks, and photos from your work that you would like to share with us and the community at large.
